RED SPRINGS — A 51-year-old Red Springs man was injured this week when he jumped on a burglar’s vehicle as the man drove away, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Wayne Scott, of N.C. 71, was taken to UNC Health Care in Chapel Hill on Wednesday, where he is in good condition. James Elwood Tyson Jr., of Ridge Road in Sea Grove, was arrested on charges of breaking and entering and felony larceny.
Scott arrived at his home before noon to find 52-year-old Tyson inside, according to Maj. Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives for the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office. Thompson said Tyson tried to flee in his truck, taking cigarettes, a television, hair clippers, a laptop and tools with him.
As Tyson pulled out onto N.C. 71, Scott jumped on top of the truck. Tyson swerved in an attempt to throw Scott off and the vehicle flipped over, landing in a ditch, Thompson said.
Tyson suffered minor injuries but did not need medical attention, Thompson said.
All of Scott’s belongings were recovered by deputies, Thompson said.
Tyson is being held at the Robeson County Detention Center under a $15,000 bond.
