LUMBERTON — Three people were arrested while trying to steal silver platters and utensils, a suitcase and a kerosene heater from a Lumberton home on Tuesday night, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
William Edge, of Ruth Road, reported the break-in when he returned home at about 10:30 p.m. and saw the men inside, according to Maj. Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives for the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
When sheriff’s’s deputies arrived, they found Brandon Eugene Merrick, 22, Jeremiah Scott, 29, and Coy Tyndall Scott, 22, inside the home, Thompson said.
The three ran out of the house into nearby woods and after a “short foot-chase” were caught, Thompson said. All of Edge’s property was recovered.
Merrick and Coy Scott live in the same home on the 200 block of Ranger Court. Jeremiah Scott lives in a different house on that block.
They are all charged with second-degree burglary, larceny after breaking and entering and felony conspiracy and are each being held at the Robeson County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.
Thompson said he did not know if Coy Scott and Jeremiah Scott are related.
In 2010, Coy Scott served about a month in jail on charges of possessing and receiving stolen goods.
