LUMBERTON — A county man turned himself into Lumberton police after deputies, believing he was responsible for shooting another man to death this morning, searched the scene for at least an hour, according to Sheriff Kenneth Sealey.
Darrell Lee Thompson, 24, was found shot to death by deputies shortly after noon today in the front yard of a home on N.C. 211 near Allenton Road, Sealey said.
The incident drew a crowd of spectators around the home, and prompted neighbors and passers-by to take to Facebook. Some posts say Thompson was shot when the on-and-off boyfriend of homeowner Lynette Cade found Thompson giving her a Valentine’s Day gift.
According to Sealey, Jamie Bostick, who had been at Cade’s house earlier, returned to the home and found Thompson there. Sealey said an argument erupted between Thompson and Bostick, who dated and lived with Cade for years, and Thompson was shot. Sealey could not confirm that the argument was about a Valentine’s Day gift.
Bostick then left the home and an alert was sent out to area law enforcement.
Sealey said Thompson, who lived in the Eaglewood Mobile Home Park on N.C. 41, had been shot multiple times.
Bostick was being questioned but had not been charged with any crimes as of 4 p.m. Friday.
Sealey said Bostick previously lived at the house where the shooting took place, but that it was not his current address. He could not immediately share Bostick or Cade’s ages.
