LUMBERTON — A convicted murderer who spent 15 years in prison is recovering after being shot at a South Lumberton convenience store this weekend.

Antonio Cade, 36, was shot in the right hip at the N.C. 41 Atex on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at about 9:44 p.m. on Saturday, according to a police report. Cade has since been released from Southeastern Regional Medical Center, a hospital spokesperson said.

Police say they don’t have any suspects.

Cade was convicted of second-degree murder in September 1997 for the shooting death of a Lumberton man two years earlier. Cade was 17 when committed the murder.

Before he was jailed in 1997, Cade was charged several times with possessing and selling drugs and assaulting a law enforcement officer, according to the state Department of Public Safety.

Cade was released from prison in December 2012.
