FAIRMONT — A 64-year-old Charlotte woman was killed when she lost control of her vehicle while driving near Fairmont, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Morgan Thomas Orr, of Providence Road, was driving east on N.C. 130 near Stuart’s Mill Road on Thursday at about 11:40 a.m. when her 2013 Smart Car ran off the road to the right, according to 1st Sgt. Ardeen Hunt.

Orr’s vehicle then hit a sign and overturned, coming to a rest on its top, Hunt said.

Orr, who was wearing a seat belt, was traveling at the 55-mph speed limit when the crash occurred, Hunt said. Her car, which was valued at $12,000, was destroyed.

Hunt said alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor.
