LUMBERTON — A Lumberton man was injured when his girlfriend’s brother shot him during a dispute at a baby shower on Sunday, according to Maj. Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives for the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Joshun Bryant Sampson, 23, was treated for non life-threatening injuries at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, according to Thompson. Kenneth John Locklear, 30, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Sampson and his girlfriend were at Locklear’s Deep Branch Road home when the two began to fight, Thompson said. Locklear told Sampson, who lives on Chicken Road, to leave.
Thompson said Sampson went to a neighbor’s house and someone called police. When deputies left the home, Sampson reportedly returned and “came at” Locklear, Thompson said, citing an incident report. Locklear then fired multiple shots, hitting Sampson in the legs and torso, Thompson said.
Sampson called his brother, 29-year-old Shaun Christopher Sampson, and told him he had been shot. Shaun Sampson went to the Deep Branch Road house and, according to the report, attacked his brother’s girlfriend. Locklear then fired shots at Shaun Sampson’s empty car.
Sampson’s girlfriend did not need medical attention for her injuries, and no one else was hurt, Thompson said.
Locklear was released on an $8,000 bond.
Locklear was previously put on probation following a 2007 charge of assaulting a female.
