PARKTON — A 22-year-old man is charged with first-degree murder after shooting and killing his brother during a dispute on Saturday evening, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Kewathian Pone was denied bond in the death of his 25-year-old brother, Gary Darel Pone, who lives in Hope Mills, Maj. Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives, said in the statement.
The two were at Kewathian Pone’s Dewitt Drive home at about 6:45 p.m. when Gary Pone assaulted his girlfriend, Thompson said. The brothers began to push each other and Kewathian Pone pulled out a gun.
When deputies arrived at the home, Gary Pone was being driven to Southeastern Regional Medical Center by friends. He died while they were driving on Interstate 95, Thompson said.
Kewathian Pone was charged in 2011 with possessing drug paraphernalia and is on probation for a 2013 DWI in Cumberland County. Gary Pone was released in April from a Hoke County prison after serving nearly three years for 10 felony counts of discharging a firearm into occupied property in 2009, according to the state Department of Public Safety.
The Robesonian was unable to obtain a photograph of Kewathian Pone because of the Memorial Day holiday.
