LUMBERTON — Lumberton police say there are no known suspects in a home invasion and shooting that left a 28-year-old man injured early Thursday.
According to police Capt. Terry Parker, Cory Howard’s injuries are not life-threatening. Howard was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center and has since been transferred, a hospital spokesperson said.
Parker said officers were called to Howard’s home on Florence Court off of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at about 12:45 a.am. Thursday and found Howard suffering with a gunshot wound to the stomach.
“Someone knocked on the door. When he opened the door, they forced their way in and shot him,” Parker said. The intruder did leave with something from the home but Parker declined to say what.
Parker said there was a woman in the home and that she was not injured.
Anyone with information should call police Detective Dereck Evans at 910-671-3845.
