FAIRMONT — The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a third person in connection with the 2013 murder of a 57-year-old Fairmont man.

Londe Demedeco Gatlin, 26, was arrested Monday morning and charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the shooting death of Forace Oxendine, according to an arrest report.

Oxendine’s wife, 53-year-old Carol Lynn Anders, and 25-year-old Christopher Laycell Nealey, were arrested in March for their role in Oxendine’s death. Anders was also charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretenses.

Gatlin, who lives on Pinewood Road, has been jailed under a $100,000 bond for the conspiracy charge and was denied bond for the murder charge, the arrest report said.

Maj. Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives for the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, said he was unsure of the relationship between Gatlin and Oxendine and declined to comment further on Gatlin’s role in the murder.

On April 26, 2013, deputies found Oxendine dead in the backyard of a home at 499 Price Road in Fairmont. He suffered multiple injuries but authorities have not disclosed their nature.

The investigation involves the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, the Lumberton Police Department, the State Bureau of Investigation, the SBI’s Medicaid Fraud Unit, the state Department of Insurance and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, according to Sheriff Kenneth Sealey.

Sealey declined to elaborate on Anders’ fraud-related charges. According to Sealey, Anders owns the Price Road home, but would not say if Oxendine was also a homeowner there.

Thompson said the incident is still under investigation and could result in more charges.
