LUMBERTON — A local businessman has increased the reward he is offering for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those who vandalized his business on March 11 and March 12.

Lloyd “Mickey” Meekins, who runs Lloyd Meekins & Sons Auction Co. on N.C. 211, is now offering $5,000 for information. An auction house at the business was damaged when someone drove two large pieces of farm equipment into it, causing at least $100,000 in damage.

The initial reward was $2,000.

Anyone with information should call Lt. Mark McMillian or Lt. Brian Duckworth at the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office at 910-671-3100, or St. Pauls Crime Stoppers at 910-865-8477.

Meekins won the Democratic primary on May 6 in the race to represent District 6 on the Robeson County Board of Commissioners. He will face Republican David Edge, the incumbent, in the November General Election. Meekins has said he does not beleive the vandalism is related to his pursuit of a seat on the county board.
