LUMBERTON — Three men were injured, one critically, on Saturday when a drunk driver slammed his vehicle into a car pulled over to assist a stranded motorist, according to Lumberton police.

The driver of the disabled vehicle, 77-year-old Arthur Lee Glover, was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where he was in “critical but stable” condition on Monday, said Maj. Tommy Barnes.

Glover’s car became disabled on the northbound side Fayetteville Road near Barker Ten Mile Road at about 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, according to a report filed by Officer Cedrique Bridges.

Alvin Sinclair, 42, stopped to assist Glover. As Glover walked to meet Sinclair, a red pickup truck slammed into the back of Sinclair’s pickup truck, which rammed into Glover’s, Barnes said.

Glover, who lives on U.S. 301 North in St. Pauls, had his emergency flashers on and hood raised, Barnes said.

The truck, carrying three people, struck Glover before flipping over on its side, the report said.

Rosendo Noe Jeronimo-Perez, of Meadow Road, Lumberton, has been charged with felony injury by vehicle, driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving and resisting an officer for trying to avoid arrest after being released from the hospital.

Two passengers in Jeronimo-Perez’ vehicle fled on foot and were quickly captured, according to Barnes. They were charged with resisting an officer and misdemeanor fleeing. Arrest reports on those two were not complete Tuesday morning so their names were not available.

Jeronimo-Perez, who was trapped in his truck, was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and released on Sunday, Barnes said.

Sinclair, of T.S. Humphrey Road, St. Pauls, was treated for minor injuries and released from Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Barnes said.

Jeronimo-Perez, 34, has been jailed under a $21,000 secured bond.
