LUMBERTON — U.S. Rep. Mike McIntyre, a Lumberton native, was recently presented with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, North Carolina’s highest civilian honor.

McIntyre, a Democrat, was honored during a ceremony at the Southeastern North Carolina Agricultural Events Center in Lumberton. He was presented with the distinction by Elizabethtown Councilman Ricky Leinwand.

The event also included tributes to McIntyre and a video highlighting his 18 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. After nine terms representing the 7th District, McIntyre has decided not to seek re-election.

Established in 1963, the Order of the Long Leaf Pine is presented by the governor to those with a proven record of service to the state. Other recipients include Maya Angelou, Michael Jordan and Andy Griffith.
