SHANNON — A Parkton man once incarcerated on kidnapping charges is accused of sexually assaulting a Shannon woman.
Brian Derrell Baldwin, 33, was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree rape and first-degree burglary. According to Maj. Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives for the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, the assault occurred on June 17 at about 4 a.m.
Baldwin, who lives on Smith Farm Road in Parkton, is accused of entering an apartment on Rennert Road and assaulting a woman staying there, Thompson said. It is unclear whether he broke into the apartment or if the door was unlocked.
Baldwin has been jailed under a $55,000 bond. Warrants were also taken out against Baldwin on June 17 for cyberstalking and making threatening phone calls, Thompson said.
The Robesonian does not publish the names of sexual assault victims and is withholding certain details, including her age, to ensure that the alleged victim’s identity is not revealed.
Baldwin was incarcerated from November 2001 to April 2008 on charges of first-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon and burglary. He was placed on probation in 2013 after being convicted of felony larceny.
