The event, which included an art auction and guest speakers, was held to honor Pierce, a civil rights attorney who was murdered in 1988. Proceeds from the event benefit Julian T. Pierce memorial scholarship funds at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Robeson Community College and the North Carolina Central University School of Law as well as the Julian T. Pierce Memorial at Pembroke Legal Aid.
