LUMBERTON — A man found holding a bloody knife after a motel owner was stabbed Sunday morning has been arrested, according to Lumberton police Capt. Terry Parker.
Don Locklear, 45, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill for stabbing the owner of the Deluxe Inn on Capuano Street. There was also an outstanding warrant for his arrest for the same charge, Parker said.
Locklear, of Genes Road, Pembroke, has been at Southeastern Regional Medical Center since suffering a non-life threatening medical condition on Sunday. Parker said Locklear was arrested without incident upon his release from the hospital.
When a Lumberton officer arrived at the motel at about 6:45 a.m. on Sunday, she found the lobby doors locked, a trail of blood leading to the counter and Locklear trying to get in the back door, according to a police report. Parker said Ashok Vyas, who was stabbed twice, was not robbed.
Vyas was taken to the hospital and had been released by Tuesday morning.
Locklear was jailed under a $36,000 secured bond.
