Time to vote dead wood off Lumbee Tribal Council
To the Editor,
Soon the Lumbee people will be asked to go to the polls and vote for Tribal Council candidates. This is the time to get the dead wood off the Tribal Council. This is the time to remove those council members who have been an embarrassment to the proud Lumbee people.
You can start by not voting for Pearlean Revels, who admittedly stole financial documents off a desk at the Tribal Housing Complex. In the past she has done as she pleased on the Tribal Council. People of District 3 on Nov. 12 get out and vote for Alton Locklear Jr. Any other council member who is nothing but dead wood and not doing the job that they were elected to do, vote them out. It’s time to make the Tribal Council accountable to the Lumbee people. Saddletree has not had a voice on the council in a long time, and still doesn’t.
No more vacations to Hawaii. Hold them accountable or get them out. For a council member to threaten to shut down the tribal government is a disgrace. Don’t vote for someone who is your friend or your cousin. Vote for someone who you feel can help take the tribe forward, and not someone who is only looking out for themselves.
Richard Terry Locklear
