To the Editor,
The Paul Brooks administration is robo-calling the 5,000 people who voted in the 2012 tribal chairman’s election.
The message seems to be the Lumbee Revolution is a fake group, not a nonprofit, and not to send any money to the group and just ignore or throw away the petition that they may have received in the mail, calling for the removal of Brooks as chairman of the Lumbee Tribe. We are a nonprofit with an employer identification number.
If some will lie about one thing, what more will they lie about? Will they lie about money that belongs to the Lumbee people and how it is spent? Who pays for all of these robo calls and a great deal of other things that the people know nothing about?
No money seems to be available to conduct elections required by our constitution, but when the dictators want money to mislead and propagandize, there seems to always be a ready source of money for them to do so.
What the robo-call failed to counter was the reasoning behind the recall petition: As provided by Article IV of the Lumbee constitution, we, the undersigned proud members of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, submit that Paul Brooks is guilty of the following and request that he be recalled from office: Paul Brooks is guilty of general malfeasance in office having been cited by HUD for violating federal regulations by using a public vehicle for personal business. In gross disregard for tribal law and custom he has been found guilty on six counts of contempt for the Lumbee Tribal Supreme Court. Brooks has openly abused his authority by engaging the Lumbee People in a state of North Carolina Court System proceeding against tribal members wherein the state assumed jurisdiction in tribal matters. This action threatens self-determination and tribal sovereignty of the Lumbee Tribe,”
We encourage everyone to sign the petition and send it back in.
