Town to herald 2014 with Pine Cone Drop

PEMBROKE —Pembroke will celebrate New Year’s Eve with its first ever Pine Cone Drop.

The event is Tuesday at the Pembroke Recreational Complex at 7164 N.C. 711.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the event will end at 9 p.m. The six-foot lighted pine cone will drop at 7 p.m.

There will be a children’s area, food vendors and a photo session with Miss North Carolina Johna Edmonds.

There will also be live performances by Edmonds as well as Kelsey Cummings, Miss UNCP; Alexis Locklear, Miss Lumbee; LaMorris Smith; Kelly Cruz; Dustin Chapman; and Brandon McLean.

The celebration is sponsored by the Pembroke Area Chamber of Commerce, Lumbee River Electric Membership Corporation, The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, the town of Pembroke, Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, Howington Office Products, Holiday Inn of Pembroke, D F Lowry House, Lumbee Guaranty Bank, and Peterson Toyota, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge.
