Man takes gun into courthouse

LUMBERTON — A man who walked into the county courthouse carrying a shotgun on Wednesday suffered a seizure and was rushed to the hospital, according to Sheriff Kenneth Sealey.
Sealey did not want to identify the man, who was not charged with a crime.
Sealey said the man entered the courthouse with the weapon through a restricted entrance. Sealey said the man appeared to have brought the shotgun “as evidence for his hearing.”
“He came in through the side door of the courthouse, where attorneys and employees come in.” Sealey said.
Sealey said the man did not make it past the security screening at the entrance of the building.
“You’re not allowed to use that door unless you have a badge to show security,” he said. “He was stopped by courthouse security and some sheriff deputies stopped him at the door.”
Sealey said the shotgun was seized by law enforcement.
There are metal detectors at the public entrances of the courthouse.
