RED SPRINGS — A Shannon man who is charged with multiple crimes in Robeson County was shot and killed earlier this week in Hoke County.
The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate as a murder the death of Chad Lynn Blanks, who lived at 124 Seargent Drive. Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin said the shooting may have been drug-related.
Lt. Brian Duckworth of the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said Blanks had nine pending felony charges against him stemming from a recent robbery and arson of a house, including two counts each of probation violation, larceny and second-degree burglary, as well as one count each of second-degree arson, conspiracy and breaking or entering.
Blanks was scheduled to appear in Robeson County District Court on Oct. 29 and Robeson County Superior Court on Nov. 4.
Duckworth said Blanks’ accomplice, 19-year-old Marcus Oxendine, has seven pending felony charges against him, including two counts each of larceny and second-degree burglary and one count each of breaking or entering, conspiracy and second-degree arson. Oxendine is scheduled to appear in Robeson County District Court on Tuesday and again on Dec. 10.
According to Peterkin, deputies were called to 650 Goose Pond Road at 2:40 p.m. Monday after being told someone had been shot. Peterkin said deputies found Blanks with a bullet wound to his back.
The funeral home that is handling Blanks’ arrangements said he died on Sunday.
