Accident kills Lumberton man

ST. PAULS — A Lumberton man was killed Saturday evening when his car overturned in a single-vehicle wreck on Martin Road west of Barker Ten Mile Road.


Larry Montgomery, 54, of 116 Page St., was traveling at about 75 mph when his 2010 Nissan ran off the road, according to a report by Trooper J.M. Bullard of the state Highway Patrol. His car hit a ditch and overturned, coming to a stop in a field. The speed limit on the road is 55 mph.


According to Bullard’s report, Montgomery was not wearing a seat belt when the accident occured. The report said alcohol may have been a contributing factor.


Montgomery was pronounced dead at Southeastern Regional Medical Center. The accident happened at 7:32 p.m.
