Grinch steals holiday decorations

LUMBERTON — For one Lumberton resident, a Grinch almost stole Christmas.
Chelsea Biggs returned home from a trip to New York recently to find all the decorations in front of her West 30th Street home gone.
Among the stolen items was a Santa Claus door hanger designed by her close friend and local artist, Thomas Ard. A light-up snowman and a wreath had also been swiped from her property.
“I’d had that wreath forever,” said Biggs, who managed Biggs Park Mall in Lumberton.
Footage from security cameras on her house show a middle-aged woman back up to Biggs’ entryway in a Jeep at about 3 a.m. on Dec. 7, hop out and snag the decorations. Biggs reported the theft to Lumberton police on Monday.
“It’s just disappointing that you can’t even have Christmas decorations up without worrying about them getting stolen,” Biggs said
Although she’s upset, the incident hasn’t dampened her Christmas spirit; the inside of her house and Biggs Park Mall remain holiday havens.
She said she doesn’t expect to see the decorations again, but knows what she’d say if she ever met the culprit.
“I would tell her I hope she’s enjoying my decorations she stole,” Biggs said.
Anyone with information should call police Detective Jerry Kinlaw at 910-671-3845.
