LUMBERTON — A Lumberton man was found dead early Tuesday morning following a home invasion, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies found the body of 57-year-old Milton Cummings after they received a 911 call at about 2 a.m. from his mother’s home on the 100 block of Powhatan Drive near Chicken Road, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.

Cummings had been assaulted, the statement said.

According to the statement, the front door of the home had been forced open. Along with Cummings, his mother, Sara Campbell, another male family member and a 7-year-old child were also in the home. The statement did not indicate if any one else was injured.

An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death. No other information was immediately available.
