FAIRMONT — Fireworks fans don’t have to wait until the Fourth of July to see bombs bursting in air.
The eighth annual Fantastic Fourth Fireworks celebration runs from 5 until 10 p.m. today at the Fairmont Community Park.
The event, which is free to attend, will kick off with a concert from Gary Lowder and the Smokin’ Hot, a seven-piece R&B band from Myrtle Beach, S.C. The group is scheduled to perform through 9 p.m.
A 30-minute fireworks display will follow the concert at 9:30 p.m. Food and drink vendors will be set up across the park and activities will be available for children.

On Thursday, Lumberton will celebrate Independence Day with the city’s annual Family Fourth event in Brooks Stadium at Lumberton High School. The free event is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. with a performance from The Ole Man and His Music.
A 45-minute program will follow featuring an invocation by Donnie Paschall of Vertical Church; a rendition of the national anthem by Will Britt and Laura Morgan; a presentation of the American flag by the Robeson County Fireman’s Association Honor Guard; and a parachute jump by the All Veteran Parachute Team.
A fireworks display curated by Pennsylvania pyrotechnics company Zambelli Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m.
The Lumberton High School band will be selling concessions during the event to raise money for uniforms.

A fireworks display sponsored by the St. Pauls Volunteer Fire Department will be held at dusk on Friday at the corner of South Fifth and West McLean streets in St. Pauls. The event is free to attend.

The Lumbee Fireworks Sky Show will be held at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Lumbee Regional Development Association Office Complex in Pembroke. The event, which is free to attend, will mark the end of the 46th annual Lumbee Homecoming celebration.
