ST. PAULS — St. Pauls Elementary School will hold a third grade “Read to Achieve” meeting on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Learning Commons.

Sandra Evans, curriculum supervisor for kindergarten through eighth grades, will serve as the guest speaker. Dinner will be served after the meeting.

LUMBERTON — Robeson Community College will honor the “Father of the North Carolina Community College System,” Dr. Dallas Herring, by unveiling his portrait in the college’s library at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Herring served for 20 years on the State Board of Education, where he played a role in starting Industrial Education Centers that were the precursors to the North Carolina Community College System.

Portraits of Herring were donated to all of the 58 colleges last spring.
