PEMBROKE — The University of North Carolina will hold a fall open house on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. in the Givens Performing Arts Center.


Tours, an information fair and on-site admissions will be available. The university’s enrollment is 6,249 students, It offers 41 undergraduate majors and the average class size is 22 students and the student-faculty ratio is 15 to one.


To be considered for on-site admissions, the following items must be received: A completed application, $45 application fee or fee waiver, an official high school transcript and official SAT or ACT scores. Other open houses will be held on Feb. 15 and April 5.


LUMBERTON — Councilman John Cantey Jr. was recently appointed to oversee the Masons’ Grand Lodge scholarships in North Carolina.


Cantey was named to the North Carolina State Grand Lodge Scholarship Committee because of his work in education. Cantey’s Masonic Lodge, Golden Leaf 124, and his district, 29th District, has provided scholarships to area high school seniors.


The lodge plans to award its next eight scholarships in January.


LUMBERTON — Robeson Community College will hold three community forums this month.


The first will be at the Pembroke Town Hall on Thursday, then the Fairmont Heritage Center on Nov. 12 and then the Osterneck Auditorium in Lumberton on Nov. 19.


All forums will begin at 6:30 p.m. and light refreshments will be served.
