LUMBERTON — BB&T recently threw a spotlight on the work of students at Janie C. Hargrave Elementary.

Through The BB&T Lighthouse Project, each student at Hargrave received an assortment of books to take home for summer reading. More than 900 books were donated to the school.

In addition to the books, BB&T sent 14 volunteers to help the school with End-of-Grade testing in May. Each volunteer spent four hours at the school.

BB&T wrapped up the lighthouse project during the school’s Fun Day event on June 5 with 10 volunteers and a slew of goodies for the children. For Fun Day, the bank furnished a bounce house, obstacle course, large slide and an assortment of games for the school. Bank employees also provided a tent with coolers and ice for students.

BB&T donated more than $2,800 and 112 volunteer hours to the project.
