To the Editor,
There will be a recall petition available soon for everyone to sign who would like to see the Lumbee Tribal Government operate with openness and abide by the people’s constitution. If we are tired of some who are trying to ram things down the throats of people while making themselves look like the donkey, then I would urge us all to sign the petition. That way we can send Paul Brooks and Tony Hunt, of Hoke County, packing back home.
We are putting together a recall e-mail contact list to assist in the recall effort. Please send me your e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will add you to the recall contact list and keep you posted. Or you can just send your e-mail o by message on FB. You may also call me at 910-739-8772 or write me at 79 Robin Road, Lumberton, N.C. 28358, with the information.
We also need to talk about financing the upcoming recall election. In the past the Lumbee government has said that they could not find the money to conduct elections that are mandated by the Lumbee Constitution. I suggest that we set up a trust account at a bank in order to do this. It should require two to three signatures and there should be a regular public report as to how much is accumulated. I would encourage everyone to contribute who can.
Money could be contributed without a name attached. Based upon past tribal-wide elections, it would seem that we need to raise between $25,000 and $30,000. Six hundred people contributing $50 would raise the $30,000. Twelve hundred people contributing $25 each would be $30,000.
I believe that we have people who would contribute. Those who contribute do not have to be a tribal member, but one who loves justice and dislikes those who commit unjust acts. Let’s get this started ASAP since we will get a resolution to many of the existing problems at the Turtle when we send a number of people packing back home.
