To the Editor,

I don’t think the Lumbee tribe should ask the county commissioners for a $100,000 donation to help pay for the rehabilitation of the N.C. Indian Cultural Center. I think Paul Brooks is in the wrong even to think about it.

Any money coming from the county is tax money. This is a project by the Lumbee tribe for the Lumbee people. If you put public money into it, before long the black people will be putting their claim to it, the white people will be putting their claim to it and the Indian people will end up losing it all just like all the times before.

If the Lumbee tribe can pull this off, I would say by all means do it. But if you can’t do it on you own, don’t even try. After all, it doesn’t have to be done yesterday. It would be better to take your time and not take money from the wrong place.
