LUMBERTON — Recent rain throughout North Carolina has caused a number of changes to the county’s prep football schedule.
The latest change is that South Robeson’s game at West Bladen has been postponed until 7 p.m. Monday due to poor field conditions.
Mustang coach Stephen Roberson announced the change shortly before 1 p.m. Friday.
It followed an announcement Friday morning that the Joe Salas era at Lumberton wouldn’t start inside Alton G. Brooks Stadiums like the Pirates originally planned.
Coaches convened Thursday and decided Lumberton’s field was too soggy to host Friday’s opener against Douglas Byrd. Instead, the Pirates will make the short trip to Fayetteville to battle the Eagles at Bob Paroli Stadium.
The Pirates and Eagles will kick off at 7:30.
Red Springs, the area’s preseason top-ranked squad, will host White Oak at 7 p.m. The Vikings had a similar problems with saturated turf, causing the game to be moved to Robeson County.
