St. Pauls notches first win
ST. PAULS — After taking one on the chin in last week’s season opener, St. Pauls rebounded with an emphatic victory Friday over South Brunswick, piling up the yards during a 26-0 home win.
The Bulldogs (1-1) did a little bit of everything on offense with two touchdown passes — one from starter Malik Livingston — and a 2-yard scoring plunge from Damien McMillan. St. Pauls opened the contest with a boom when DJ Inman took the kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.
It was the first shutout for first-year St. Pauls defensive coordinator Mike Paroli who joined the Bulldogs staff this summer. He’s a 30-year coaching veteran and his previous stops included Douglas Byrd and Seventy-First.

ROWLAND —South Robeson avoided an 0-2 start Friday night with a 38-26 win over Trinity Christian.
Lumberton drops to 0-2
FAYETTEVILLE — Lumberton fought back from a pair of 17-point deficits to pull within striking distance of Pine Forest, but ultimately fell, 44-28.
Tailback Josh Sheridan nearly brought the Pirates back with a pair of 70-yard touchdown runs, but the Trojans scored the game’s final points in the final frame.
“I thought we grew up a little tonight and that’s something positive to take away from this loss,” Lumberton coach Joe Salas said. “Josh had a heck of a game with a couple long touchdown runs and we did some good things, but we started out with seven or eight young mistakes in the first quarter.
“You can’t do that against a good team.”
Lumberton (0-2) hosts South View at home next week in Salas’ first appearance at Alton G. Brooks Stadium.
