HONOLULU — Fairmont native William McGirt shot a final-round 2-under-par 68 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 46th place in the Sony Open in Hawaii and pocketed $15,523.20.
McGirt, who has made three of five cuts in the PGA Tour’s new wrap-around FedEx Cup season, finished at 5 under par for the tournament after rounds of 67, 72, 68 and 68. He has now earned $77,023 during the new season and is 93rd on the FedEx Cup points list.
Jimmy Walker won the event with a 7-under 63 Sunday to finish at 17 under for the tournament, good enough for a one-shot victory over Chris Kirk. It was Walker’s second win in six starts in the new season and puts him No. 1 on the FedEx Cup list and the Ryder Cup standings.
Jerry Kelly came in third at 15 under and Harris English finished fourth at 14 under.
McGirt has a busy schedule, with plans to tee it up this week at the Humana Challenge in La Quinta, Calif., and then, following a week off, he will be in the field at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Ariz., AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am at Pebble Beach, Calif., and the Northern Trust Open in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
