The swing of a club can help the swing of a bat this week when the Lumberton Baseball Advancement Team hosts its alumni golf tournament at Cliffwood


Saturday’s four-man scramble will tee off at 1 p.m. with proceeds going to help the Lumberton High School baseball program.


There’s a $200 entry fee per team, which includes greens and cart fees, as well as lunch at noon. For information call Lumberton baseball coach Paul Hodges at 910-671-6050.


Cliffwood hosts a senior shootout every Tuesday and Friday. Entry is $20 per player, which includes greens and cart fees and includes a meal catered with Smithfield Chicken and BBQ.


Fairmont GC


Dylan and Jacob Thompson took home top honors at Fairmont Golf Club’s annual Member-Member tournament.


The two scored an 11-under-par 133 to win the championship flight of the tournament. Aaron Maynor and Bradley Hamilton took second with an 8-under-par 136 and Brian Haymore and Roy Williamson scored a 143 and won most creative.


Ronald Moore and John Potter scored a 138 to win the second flight, with Butch and Wayland Lennon scoring 141 to take second. Most creative went to Tim and Jason Rice, who scored 165.


Mike Long and Don Viets scored 151 to win the third flight with Tom Jones and Percy Hill, 153, taking second, and Larry and Brian Davis winning most creative with a score of 179.


The club’s next senior shootout is Tuesday at 9 a.m. Played as a two-man best ball format, there is a $23 entry fee, which includes carts and greens fees, lunch, snacks and the chance to win prizes. For information call the club at 910-628-9931.


Pinecrest CC


May 13 will be the Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce’s Golf Classic.


The four-person captain’s choice tournament will start at noon. Entry is $75 per golfer, which includes lunch sponsored by Outback Steakhouse at 11 a.m., along with greens and cart fees, a gift bag, a mulligan and a ladies tee. The top three teams will win awards, and there will be prizes for closest to the pin and most accurate drive. Lumberton Honda will have a vehicle as a hole-in-one prize.
