The dates are set for one of Robeson County’s biggest golf tournaments.
The Robeson County Golf Championships sponsored by Dial Insurance will be held July 18, 19 and 20 at Pinecrest Country Club and this year’s tournament will include new division.
Players 65 and older will comprise the oft-requested super senior division, which will play from the gold tees alongside the juniors on Friday and Saturday. The senior division will be for players 55 and older and be played on Saturday and Sunday, as will the ladies and regular division. Each division will be flighted after the first day.
The championship division will play all three days and will be flighted after the second day. The championship is open to all amateurs over the age of 16.
There is a $90 registration fee for the championship division and junior entry is $25. All other divisions have a $60 registration fee. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each flight and fees include food and beverages on the course.
Pinecrest will host the Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce’s Golf Classic on Tuesday.
The four-person captain’s choice tournament will start at noon. Entry is $75 per golfer, which includes lunch sponsored by Outback Steakhouse at 11 a.m., along with greens and cart fees, a gift bag, a mulligan and a ladies tee. The top three teams will win awards, and there will be prizes for closest to the pin and most accurate drive. Lumberton Honda will have a vehicle as a hole-in-one prize.

Wayne Beasley and Bucky Beasley won the championship flight of Tuesday’s senior shootout. Mel Britt and Tommy Sipka took second place.
Jon Soderena and Keith Long won the first flight with J.D. Revels and Sammy Davis taking second.
Special event winners were Steve Lawson, Ricky Rogers, Tommy Sipka and Mike Sellers.

Richard and Tony Walters won Tuesday’s senior shootout with a 4-under-par 68. Tom Jones and J.T. Powers scored a 69 to take second.
Womens league winner was Julie Fowlkes and Pandora Carter finished second. Julie Fowlkes chipped in for a birdie on No. 18.
Cliffwood hosts a senior shootout every Tuesday at 9 a.m. Entry is $20 per player, which includes greens and cart fees and includes a meal catered with Smithfield Chicken and BBQ.
