St. Pauls hosting tennis camp in July

ST. PAULS — St. Pauls High School is offering a tennis camp next month.

The camp will be held July 20 to July 22 at the St. Pauls High School tennis courts from 8 to 10 a.m. each day.

Participants will receive six hours of instruction by a certified tennis professional with 20 years of experience.

The cost is $12 a day or $30 for all three days. The deadline to register is July 1.

St. Pauls High School students interested in tennis are encouraged to participate and must have a physical on file with the school. For information or to register, contact Coach Jason Bullock at 910-740-4471.

Bethea holding baseball camp in Red Springs

RED SPRINGS — Former Red Springs High School player Larry Bethea will be returning to Tom Cope Field this month for a one-day baseball camp.

Bethea, who was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1995 MLB draft and has continued to play independent league ball, will host the Hard 9 Baseball Camp from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on June 14. There is a $50 fee per child.

Leach announces annual football/cheer camp

LUMBERTON — Former Super Bowl Champion and Rowland native Vonta Leach will be holding his 10th annual football and cheer camp next month.

The event, sponsored by the Vonta Leach Foundation, is set for June 27 at Lumberton High School. On-site registration begins at 8 a.m., with the camp starting at 9. The camp is free but is restricted to the first 500 participants who register online in advance. Participants get lunch, a free t-shirt and autographs.

Participants between the ages of 6 and 16 will get the chance to learn the fundamentals of football and cheerleading, as well as leadership development, team building and self-improvement skills. The football portion of the event includes coaching from professional players on skills including passing, receiving and blocking. Cheerleaders will learn choreography from former Charlotte Hornets cheerleaders.
