LUMBERTON —Two men were killed in separate shootings over the weekend, and a third person was injured.
Gilbert Hunt, 26, of 331 Birch Road, was found dead at 3:12 p.m. from a gunshot wound outside of a car wash at 1612 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, according to a police report. Brandon Hunt, 18, of Alamac Road, suffered gunshot wounds to his shoulder. He was treated and released at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
Lumberton police Lt. Johnny Barnes was unsure if the men are related. He said that the shooting may have been during a robbery attempt.
Brandon Hunt told police that he and Gilbert Hunt were at the car wash when two armed men approached them. Both were found on the ground outside of the car wash by police who were responding to a call regarding a shooting.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and they have no suspects at this time.
In the separate incident, 29-year-old Charles Lewis of Victoria Drive, St. Pauls, was killed on Saturday from a gunshot wound to the back of his head, according to a sheriff’s report.
According to the report, deputies responding to a call at 12:25 a.m. regarding a shooting on Sansbury Drive in Parkton saw someone in a 2004 Chevrolet Envoy flashing its lights while on Davis Bridge Road. The driver and a passenger of the vehicle directed the deputies to Lewis, who was in the back seat of the Envoy, dead from a gunshot wound, according to the report.
Additional details were not available.
No arrests have been made, but deputies do have a person of interest after a unnamed witness spoke to investigators, according to the report.

RIP Dereck......... Your Cousin, BJ
Don't you or anyone else on this post get caught up in stereotyping all of South Lumberton by random acts of violence by a few. These acts of violence occur throughout our county and are perpertrated by all races of people. Just like in most communities you have those who recieve government assistance and agree there are some of those who don't deserve it, but there are also hardworking Christian people who live in South Lumberton.
"Touche" All races seem to be committing genocide...
Until the community stops making excuses for these people who act worse than animals, things will not change. All the free housing, the free food, the near-free education, everything-handed-to-you-world-owes-me mindset will not improve the situation until these people make up their minds to do better, to stay away from drugs and alcohol, and stop killing each other.
