LUMBERTON — Eight incumbents were among 11 people to file on Wednesday for municipal elections as Friday’s deadline nears.
Of those 11, John R. “Ronnie” Jackson, Robin Hill, and Victor R. Womack Sr. provided information to The Robesonian.
Other filers were: Minnie Pipkin Miller for election to Maxton Board of Commissioners; Doris Elizabeth “Betty” Hunt for re-election as mayor of Rowland; Paul Hunt Jr. for re-election to Rowland Board of Commissioners; Alf Parnell for re-election to Parkton Town Council; Dannie Bacot for re-election to MacDonald Town Council; H. Biggs Johnson for re-election to mayor of Proctorville; James Taylor for re-election as mayor of MacDonald; D. Benton Finley for re-election to Parkton Town Council.
The filing period ends Friday at noon.
Fairmont
John R. “Ronnie” Jackson, 66, has filed to run for mayor of Fairmont.
“I bring to this position, mayor of Fairmont, a strong knowledge of town codes and ordinances, zoning administration, subdivision regulations, housing rehabilitation, grant writing skills and the ability to listen and get along with all races of people,” he said in a statement.
Jackson served on Fairmont’s Board of Commissioners from 2003 to 2007. He was defeated in a 2007 re-election bid.
He attends First Baptist Church in Fairmont and has been married to Gaynell for 42 years. They have two sons.
Parkton
Robin Hill, 49, is seeking a seat on Parkton’s board.
“I want to be more involved in my community,” she said in a statement. “I think that I can make a difference. I would appreciate your vote, but whether you vote for me or not, please do vote.”
This is Hill’s first time running for office. She attends Parkton Presbyterian and is married to Bob. They have four children and eight grandchildren.
Maxton
Victor R. Womack Sr., 58, is running for a seat on the Maxton Board of Commissioners.
“I would like to make some positive changes for everyone,” he said in a statement.
Womack has been involved with the American Red Cross, the Maxton Chamber of Commerce and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 31 of Brooklyn, N.Y.
He is currently a sergeant-at-arms for the North Carolina General Assembly.
Womack has been married to Isabella for 37 years. They have three sons.
