The one bad thing about being the library director is that you spend too much time in meetings and handling administrative tasks and not enough time helping library customers. I did get the chance to help a dad who was looking for “Battle of the Books” titles for his son. These titles are in high demand and it is hard to find them on the shelf because they are usually checked out. We looked up several books, found a few, and put some others on hold.

The reason I mention this is that in order to place books on hold without help from a staff member, you need to know how to access your library account. Your account is simply the barcode number on your library card and your four-digit pin number. If you do not have a pin or you don’t know your pin number ask a staff member to reset it for you. Choose four digits that are easy to remember. I suggest you use the last four digits of your phone number.

You can find a lot of information in your library account. In addition to placing requests for books, you can see what you have checked-out, renew books online and check to see if you have any fines on your account. You can also set up your account to maintain a record of the books you have read or to save searches of topics that interest you. Use your library account to update your contact information and set your preferences to receive email notifications when you have books coming due. Using your library account online can save you time and make your library experience more enjoyable.

If you have not had an opportunity to participate in the Library Needs Assessment Survey, please visit the library online and click on the link to “Take the Survey.” We also have copies at all our library locations. Your opinion will help us improve our services.

Thank you to everyone who shopped at our book sale and to all the Friends of the Library who volunteered their time to make the event a success. We appreciate the support we get from the community.
