LUMBERTON — The Lumber River Area Agency on Aging has free fans to help people in Robeson County who are 60 years old or older beat the heat.
An applicant must show valid identification to verify that they are from Robeson County, and a current electric bill will also be required. Applicants must provide a valid North Carolina driver’s license or state-issued ID card. Lastly, an applicant must have a home situation in which a threat to health or well-being exists. Homes with central air conditioning do not qualify for a fan.
Because of the limited number of fans available, anyone who received a fan last year in ineligible to receive one this year.
Fans are distributed Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lumber River Council of Governments offices located at 30 CJ Walker Road, Pembroke, N.C. 28372. Applicants are asked to call 910-618-5533 to verify availability.
The fans have been made available through funding from Progress Energy as part of its “Operation Fan Heat Relief Program.”
