Assistant chief suspended

PEMBROKE — Pembroke’s assistant police chief has been placed on a three-day suspension without pay, according to Town Manager Oryan Lowry.

Lowry cited confidentiality laws in saying he could not tell what led to the suspension of Lt. Dwayne Hunt. He said Hunt has had no previous disciplinary action taken against him during his 23 years on the force. Hunt declined to comment on the suspension, which began on Thursday.

In July, Hunt told The Robesonian he planned to apply for the position of police chief following the June 25 retirement of Frank Hernandez. Detective Sebastian Veneziano has been named the interim chief, a move that Hunt said left him wondering why he wasn’t considered.

Better hope no one comes in to crack Oryan's head......pretty sure he won't get a fast response for help now.

I think Mr. Lowry has done an awesome job so far and needs to be congratulated on his efforts. I'm pretty sure if he continues as he has thus far, he will get all the help he needs.

I think we all know why he was suspended, could it have something to do with a councilman being assaulted in his presence and Hunt doing nothing about it.

No disiplinary action in 23 years is the reason why that police department is run the way it is! A fat JOKE! Hunt and a crowd of others dont deserve to wear a badge up there.

Thank you Manager Lowry for being a man of your word and laying down the law on them crooks. I sure hope the next chief up there fires a crowed of them lazy bumbs.

If Manager Lowry is such an honest man then why in less than a month did he take two cars assigned to the police department and reassign one to himself and has parked the other. Why is it necessary for the manager to be driving a dodge charger? who exactly is he going to apprehend? and why is this of importance when there are so many other critical problems that need to be addressed?

I dont care what he drives, im glad he got one of them and the other can sit forever! Last i read in the paper, they dummies up there lost a $190000 grant from the state that paid for two cars up there and now me and the other tax paying citizens of pembroke got to pay the state back for them cars. NO ONE needs to be given them new chargers, if I was Lowery i would have got two old ragged out 100000 mile cars and made them drive it. Sorry dumb administrators lost the grant now they want to be rewrded with new cars, he!! NO. He is the manager an can drive what he wants to. He is the boss. The most critical issue in pembroke is the police dept! The root of all our problems in this town.

I agree, a change is needed in Pembroke, from the mayor, council & down the line. It's been crooked all my life. Cummings is gone & lowery needs to clean house. Dwayne, & Charles ride all day on a cell phone. The Freeman boy & Locklear boys left them for the state police, Wesley Revels' son is up there working; I've heard lots of positive things on him. But lowery needs to clean administration out of there & start fresh. Anyone with ties to old mcduffie should be terminated!

Sounds like to me pembrokepride has a personal problem with the pd. Two wrongs never make it right regardless of the situation.

Piss on "personnel matters" and "confidentiality laws". THE PEOPLE are paying his salary, and they have a RIGHT to know WHY he was suspended. Common sense.
