To the Editor,

As a candidate for the Lumbee Tribal Council District District 9, which is Saddletree, I would like to know how 21 members on the council can you sit there not know where $18 million was? We are not talking about $18 or even $1,800, but $18 million.

It seems to me the the council was too busy going on trips — vacations — when they should had been home looking after the tribal members. Pearlean Revels, the council speaker, tries to sugarcoat things by pledging the council’s support in seeing that the tribes housing needs are met. If I’m not mistaken, isn’t that what they were elected for in the first place?

Every one of them keeps saying we didn’t know about the money. Good lord they are supposed to be our leaders. I can see why Pearlean Revels wouldn’t talk to The Robesonian; she was too embarrassed. What could they say after they put their foot in their mouths? We need to get rid of the whole council.

This is the very reason I decided to run for Tribal Council representing Saddletree.

Richard Terry Locklear

Saddletree

Mr. Locklear, you need to take a look at where the questions arose about the monies. Fact, McDuffie Cummings, a Tribal Council member, was the one who first saw there were discrepancies in administration's numbers and what HUD's email specified. Fact, at no time did administration acknowledge any changes made in NAHASDA draw-downs nor did they have answers to Mr Cummings' questions regarding the discrepancies. As an avid Brooks supporter we know you wouldn't question his administration,or their alterior motives, now would you? With all the hoopla you welp about the Tribal Council, we will keep a watchful eye on you in the event you win your bid for District 9. Turnabout deserves fair play!
