Celebrating Agriculture at the Fairmont Farmers Festival

FAIRMONT — Those eagerly anticipating the 26th annual Fairmont Farmers Festival, which will be held on Oct. 20 and feature a parade, entertainment, wrestling, arts and crafts and an antique car show, can get a sneak preview on Saturday when the queens for the event will be crowned.

The Fairmont Farmers Festival Pageant will be held at the E.R. Gause Auditorium at Rosenwald Elementary School on Saturday in Fairmont. The pageant will begin at 3 p.m. as contestants compete for the titles of Wee, Little and Tiny Miss and again at 6:30 p.m. for the titles of Junior, Teen and Miss.

The Fairmont Chamber of Commerce is hosting the fifth annual Farmers Festival Golf Tournament at Fairmont Golf Club on Oct. 19 with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Afterward, a Red Solo Cup Hoe Down will be held at the Fairmont Community Park from 5:30 to 10 p.m., featuring a free concert by the CoCo Loco party band.

The wait is over on Oct. 20, when the Fairmont Farmers Festival kicks off with a parade starting at 10 a.m. featuring several Shriner groups, marching bands and plenty of beautiful queens, including Miss North Carolina Arlie Honeycutt.

Different food vendors will be featured at the new food court area, and there will be jewelry and crafts for sale. Adults can check out the classics at the Car Show.

There will also be Lumbee Tribal dancers and a wrestling match in the Fairmont Community Park.

Concluding the festival will be a concert by the Carolina Breakers from 9 p.m. to midnight at the Robeson County Fairgrounds. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
