Three people have been killed in separate car accidents since Saturday, including a 2-year-old child who was struck by a truck being driven by his father. One of the fatalities was a cyclist who was killed on Monday but little information was available this morning

According to state Highway Patrol Trooper J.W. Scott, Christian Fuentes, of 466 Usher Road, Lumber Bridge, was struck at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the driveway of the home by a 1999 Dodge Ram truck being driven by his father, 32-year-old Sabino Fuentes.

The report said that Oscar Lopez, 21 and Raul Segura-Moreno, 24, were helping Fuentes load his truck and noticed the child wandering around in the driveway. Fuentes told the child to go inside. When it appeared that the boy was inside, Fuentes then backed up his truck and heard a noise. He got out and found his son under laying under the right front tire.

The report said the child died before he reached Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

No charges have been filed.

According to the report, Vergara-Garcia was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi south on Shannon Road at about 8:50 p.m. when the vehicle crossed the center line, ran off the road to the left and struck a mailbox. The report said the driver overcorrected, and the vehicle then went off the road to the right, striking a ditch and a culvert.

According to the report, Vergara-Garcia was not wearing a seat belt, but the child was properly restrained.

The report said she was traveling the speed limit in the 55-mph zone.
