Homecoming

Five Forks Baptist Church members will observe Homecoming on Sunday. The Rev. K.J. Shorter of Oakdale will be the guest speaker in the 11 a.m. service.

Dinner will be served after the worship hour.

Homecoming at Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Rowland, will be observed Sunday. The worship service starts at 11 a.m., and a meal will be served in the church’s fellowship hall after the sevice. Minister Emma McKellar of Lumberton will be the speaker.

The church is on N.C. 130 East.

The Holy Swamp Baptist Church family will celebrate the church’s 126th Homecoming Sunday. The Rev. Clesta McArthur will be the guest speaker in the 11 a.m. service. Dinner will be served after the worship service.

An afternoon service will start at 4. Mothers in the church will be competing for Homecoming queen, and there will be singing. Everyone is invited.

The House of Mercy church family will celebrate Homecoming on Sunday. There will be a singing at 2:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The church is on U.S. 301 South, Rowland.

Panthersford Presbyterian Church will be observing its 55 th Homecoming on Sunday. The Rev. K.P. Stealing of Fayetteville will be the speaker in the 11 a.m. worship service. Lunch will be served after the worship service.

Friends and Family

A Family and Friends Night at St. Matthew Church of God, Raeford, will be Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Fairmont, will host a Family Fun Day on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.

Opportunities

Celebrate Recovery, a Christ-centered program that gives people the resources and relationships to help recover from life's hurts, habits, and hangups, meets at Berea Baptist Church in Pembroke each Friday at 7 p.m. in the old sanctuary.

Special events

Outreach Family Fellowship’s “Friday Night Fire” will celebrate its first year in a special event today at 10 p.m. The Fellowship is at 138 Pee Dee Church Road, Dillon, S.C.

The event is for ages 13 and up. There will be food, drinks, poetry, dancing, singing, prayer, a core message and games.

Sunday is Harvest Day at Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. The worship service is at 11 a.m., and everyone is asked to dress in old-fashioned clothes. Everyone is welcome. Dinner will be served after the worship service.

The church is at 172 Plainview Drive, Lumberton.

Food Ministry

Kingdom Place is coordinating “Thanks Giving Thursday,” a good give-away for needy families, in the parking lot of Just Deals Foods.

The event will be from noon until 2 p.m. on Oct. 29. The store is at 1802 E. 5th St., Lumberton. For information, call 739-9900.

Music

Members of Pentecostal United Holy Church, Lumberton, will be celebrating the Combined Choir anniversary in a program at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Many choirs have been invited to participate.

The church is at 2300 Gavintown Road.

Brother Charles Cook and The New Voices of Maxton will celebrate their annivesary Sunday in the South Side Alumni Building in Rowland. Doors open at 2 p.m. and the program will start at 3.

Singers will include: Tina Hunt and Family Devotion of Maxton, Bobby Clark and The Gospel Laters of Laurinburg, Second Chance of Dillon, S.C., God’s Sons of Clio, S.C., B.J. Gospel Singers of Timmonsville, S.C., One Spirit of Lumberton, Voices of Dillon, Dillon, S.C. Corinthian of Sumter, S.C., One According of Maxton, and Aris Smith and Made Men of Laurinburg.

Admission is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Children 5 years and younger will be admitted free, and children 6 to 12 years old will be charged $3.

Food and beverages will be available. There will be a prize drawing.

The McNeills will be at Liberty Holiness Church on Nov. 1 in the 11 a.m. worship hour. Pastor Tim Holden and the congregation invite everyone.

Revivals

Ashpole Center United Methodist Church, South Robeson Road, Rowland, has Sunday school at 10 a.m. and worship at 11. The Rev. Harold Hunt is the pastor.

Revival services will be Sunday at 6 p.m. and Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Revs. Terry Hunt and Herbert Lowry will be the speakers. There will be special music each evening.

Revival at Oakdale Baptist Church, Fairmont, will be Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Rev. Lyn Anderson will be the speaker. The church is at 1267 Oakdale Church Road.

Tabernacle Baptist Church will have revival services at 6:30 Sunday evening and at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The Revs. Roger Strickland and Lawrence Gardner will be the speakers. The will be special music each evening. The church is on N.C. 711, Pembroke.

Revival at Five Forks Baptist Church will be Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 2-4 at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. James Todd of Latta, S.C., will be the speaker.

Special services

Antioch Baptist Church, Proctorville, will have a missionary program Sunday afternoon at 4. Minister Sara Knighton will be the speaker.

Fall Events

Morning Star Community Church invites everyone to the third annual Youth October Drama Fest on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. Trunk-a-treat will be after the service. Everyone is reminded to bring their treat bags. The church is at 702 Dunn Road, Lumberton.

The Youth October Fest at New Beginning Church of Lumberton is Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. There will be a children’s praise service, prizes, games and candy treats.

The church is at 3485 Fayetteville Road.

Oak Grove Baptist Church, 6901 N. Chicken Road, will have a Fall Festival on Oct. 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be hay rides, door prizes, candy, games, singing, food and fun for all ages. Admission is free. Everyone is invited to gather around the bonfire. For information, call 738-5888.

Zion’s Tabernacle Baptist Church, 3496 Tar Heel Road, Lumberton, invites everyone to its fall festival Oct. 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will be plenty of food for the whole family, games, cake walks, lots of candy for the children and Christian fellowship. A Fall Festival and yard sale will be Oct. 31 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Life Line Church of God. Items for sale will include: homemade crafts, jellies, boiled peanuts, baked items, and large-size ladies clothes.

Barnesville Baptist Church is having a Holy-Ween night Oct. 31 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. There will be games, prizes, candy, cake walks and a greased-pig chase. There will also be a black light show.

Hot dogs, drinks and chips will be on sale, but admission to this event is free.

Bethesda United Methodist Church’s annual bazaar and barbecue plate sale will be Nov. 7. The bazaar begins at 10 a.m. Barbecue plates, available for eat it or take out, will be sold from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The bazaar will feature: a silent auction, homemade quilts, Christmas decorations and specially crafted wood items. There will be a Grand Food Court featuring casseroles, desserts, homemade soup, canned goods, candies, sourdough bread and lots of other goodies.

A nursery will be provided for children 4 years and younger from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The church is in the Barnesville community at 8414 South Creek Road, Orrum.

The Galilee Baptist Church WMU will sponsor a Missions Carnival at 702 E. 4th St., next to the Maxway store in Red Springs on Nov. 7 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

There will be free food, refresments and games will be provided.

Plate sales

A plate sale will be Oct. 30 at New Jerusalem Christian Center, Lumberton.

The plate sale will be from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. On sale will be chicken plates, served with potato salad, string beans, bread and cake; fish plates, served with cole slaw, bread and cake; and stew beef plates, served with rice, string beans, yams, bread and cake. Drinks can be purchased for 50 cents.

Advance orders may be placed by calling 609-0053. Orders for four or more plates can be delivered.

New Jerusalem is at 708 E. 1st St.

Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church’s trustees and laymen will have a fish fry Oct. 31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Spots will be served on the plates, and plates will be $6 each. Fish sandwiches will be sold for $3. The church is at 2060 Turkey Branch Road, Fairmont.

Mt. Sinai United Holy Church of Lumberton will celebrate Pastor Al-Kereen Whichard’s fifth anniversary Saturday and Sunday.

There will be a “Gospel Explosion” at 4 p.m. Saturday, and on Sunday, Elder Terry Cobb will be the guest speaker in the 11 a.m. service. Cobb is from Greater Peace Temple in Kinston.

At 4 p.m. Sunday, Bishop Ralph Love Sr. of Holy Trinity United Holy Church of Greenville will speak.

Everyone is invited. The church is at 117 Page Street.

The Greenville Baptist Church family will celebrate the 104th anniversary of their church on Nov. 8. A service will be at 4 p.m., and Dr. J.G. Everette, pastor of Mill Branch Baptist Church, will be the speaker.

Fundraisers

Tabernacle Baptist Church, N.C. 711 Pembroke, will have a benefit singing and plate sale on Oct. 30. The plate sale will begin at 11 a.m., and chicken and barbecue plates will be served.

The benefit singing will start at 7:30 p.m. Singers will include: Wendy and The Locklear Brothers, The Singing Revelations, Nadene and Stevie, and The Mt. Hebron Praise Team.

Elrod Baptist Church’s Haiti Mission Team will have a car wash and yard sale on Oct. 31. The fundraisers will be from 8 a.m. until noon at Burger King in Pembroke. All proceeds will pay for tickets, motel rooms and expenses for two mission teams from the church.
