To the Editor,

First, I would like to wish all Tribal Council candidates the best of luck during the election on Nov. 13.

Millicent Strickland Collins, a District 5 candidate, has a very personal link to the origins of the Tribal Council. Our mother, Dr. Josephine Locklear, was instrumental as were many others in bringing the Lumbee Tribal Council to fruition.

Millicent was there when we marched down Elm Street on June 23, 1999, in protest against Superior Court Judge Howard Manning’s ruling to disband the Lumbee Tribal Referendum Election Committee. She is a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church of Fairmont, where she is a youth/teen Sunday School teacher. She enjoys working with our youth regardless of their ages.

Millicent Strickland Collins is now seeking your support to be a strong voice for District 5 regardless of the issues. She has the education knowledge and fortitude to get the job done.

Deena Locklear
