Commissioners make more than some county employees

To the Editor,

Our county commissioners are being paid more to work parttime than some of our full-time county employees. Yes, you are parttime because all of you have outside employment or own a business, and you meet just twice a month. Gentlemen, be true to yourself, are you giving your constituents 100 percent?

I often ask people to name five things your commissioner has accomplished since being elected. They all say, “Well let me think.” What you have accomplished for you district should roll right out their mouth. I know you have pulled strings for certain people and in their eyesight you can do no wrong. Do the same for all.

Thank you Commissioner Edge for your comments and concerns; Commissioner Taylor is there just because it is election time. He’s had that seat long enough to know what has been going on, now he wants County Manager Harris to investigate other counties. Commissioners, do what is best for our county, reduce your discretionary fund, your pay, retirement package and health care.

Let’s see how many of you will sponsor a foursome at the RCC golf event tournament using your discretionary funds, and if you decide to play, will you write down you mileage as a county function? Nothing wrong with supporting a foursome, but use your own money, not our tax dollars.

From the time you were elected, all of you were advised of your county package and not one of you said anything to anyone, you kept business as usual. Commissioner Sealey, you should be ashamed of yourself, sitting on $70,000 and not doing a thing for Fairmont or Rowland, but you have the nerve to say “I need more.” I could name 25 projects you could help with; the respect I had for you sir has hit an all-time low.

Stop padding your checking accounts off the backs off Robeson County citizens, stop supporting your little community groups, stop making closed-door deals and do what is best for our county.

James Smith

Mr. Smith - you will not see any of the commissioners writing any notes as to where the money is going! They do not have to disclose that information for our tax monies. But, State, Federal and County employee's have to account for every penny they spend and provide receipts! I think that we, as tax payers, should step up and demand that the accounting system for the county taxes be revised and an itemized quarterly statement be provided to the citizens! That would not be asking too much! Besides, it is OUR money!!

According to documents released by the Highway Patrol, an investigation of Sealey’s activities while on the job showed that he violated at least four Highway Patrol directives and was guilty of lying; insubordination and neglect of duty, and violated rules about secondary employment and the limitation of that employment.

SO, WHY IS HE STILL A COUNTY COMMISSIONER? HE HANDLES OUR TAX DOLLARS AND MAKES DECISIONS FOR OUR COUNTY! CHAIRMAN WOODS IS THIS ACCEPTABLE?
