ST. PAULS — A 51-year-old St. Pauls man who spent more than 14 years in prison after being convicted of murder was arrested recently on drug charges.
Kimmer Jerome McArthur, of the 1100 block of Britt Road, was charged Oct. 12 with felony possession with intent to sell a controlled substance, felony possession with intent to sell cocaine, felony trafficking opium or heroin, felony maintaining a drug vehicle, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $20,000 bail.
McArthur was sent to prison after being convicted of second-degree murder in the May 12, 1995, shooting death of 27-year-old Robert Wayne Dial. According to a May 15, 1995, article in The Robesonian, Highway Patrol officers found Dial’s body inside of a car after it crashed. He had been shot twice in the back.
An article in The Robesonian on July 8, 1998, said Dial was murdered as he was driving the vehicle because of a drug deal that had gone bad. McArthur entered into a plea agreement and served the minimum sentence of 14 years, five months and was released on Jan 12 of this year.
McArthur had also previously been charged with five counts of felony possession with intent to sell drugs, felony manufacture of drugs, and two counts of misdemeanor resisting an officer.
