To the Editor,
As a citizen of the town of Pembroke, I have a strong desire to express my deepest concern involving the election of town councilmen.
I have been committed to the welfare of my town for decades and to elect representatives of integrity, determination and the best interest of the town is of extreme importance. Yet, some elected officials sometimes portray unacceptable and belligerent behavior toward the citizens of Pembroke. When attending the July meeting, one councilman flared with disdain and disrespect toward me and tried with great effort to prevent me from speaking to gain information concerning a town ordinance. Why would I be denied the privilege of free speech, especially when I request a simple answer? Why would any official belittle a citizen who pays taxes and supports their town?
This councilman also voted to support liquor by the drink. Yet, in his statements to the press, he says that he is concerned about the safety of the town and he stressed concern about the "crime that's been hitting the whole nation." Does he fail to realize the effects liquor can have on his grandchildren and the future of other children?
I consider Councilman Allen Griffin Dial as a committed voice for the people of Pembroke. He shares his opinions and wisdom that center so much upon the welfare of all people and the growth of the town. As a businessman, he has selected to suggest more conservative means of spending the citizens' monies more than other councilmen. He also has been instrumental in helping to bring Walmart to Pembroke, and made the motion to rezone property for UNC-Pembroke students housing at Pembroke Pointe apartments, The Commons, and University Courtyard apartments.
As citizens, may we vote and support those candidates that have our best interest at hear!
