LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Health Department has received 1,400 additional H1N1 vaccines that will be available on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, they will be administered from 1 to 7 p.m., at the Health Department, and on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This is the fifth shipment, and includes 800 nasal mist vaccines and 600 injectable vaccines. About 32,000 more vaccine doses are expected to arrive at the Health Department in weekly shipments through the end of the year.

The nasal mist vaccine contains a live virus, and so is only for healthy adults. Injectable vaccines are recommended for children 6 months old and older and pregnant women.

Health officials recommend that the vaccine be a priority for high-risk groups: pregnant women; people who live with or care for infants younger than 6 months old; health care workers; children and young adults 6 months to 24 years old; and people with chronic medical conditions — especially asthma.

The Health Department is fielding calls about seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccines through a hotline that is updated as shipments arrive. The number to call is (910) 671-6274.
