FAIRMONT — A 34-year-old Fairmont man and his girlfriend are being held in the Bladen County jail under a combined bond of more than $325,000 after breaking a sheriff’s deputy’s shoulder in four places, according to Capt. Rodney Hester of the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office.

Lamont Allen Griffin and 30-year-old Rebecca Lynn Fields fled from Fields’ Tar Heel home after sheriff’s Deputy Kenny Simmons was shoved off the home’s front porch when he tried to serve a warrant for Griffin’s arrest at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Hester said. Simmons was treated and released at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Hester said an “extensive” search was conducted for the two, and Fields was arrested at 10:40 a.m. in a field near the home. She is charged with resisting a public officer and served with the outstanding order for arrest for failure to appear in court. Fields is being held in the Bladen County Jail under an $11,000 secured bond.

Griffin was arrested around 12:45 p.m. after he attempted to go back to the residence to retrieve his cell phone, Hester said. He was also charged with resisting a public officer along with charges of misdemeanor larceny, communicating threats and six counts of failure to appear in court. His bond was $314,750 secured.

Hester said the owner of the home that Fields was renting told the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office that Griffin and Fields had been stealing from him while residing on the property.

“When Deputy Simmons arrived, he learned that both suspects had outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court on prior charges,” he said.

Hester said highway patrolmen, sheriff’s deputies from Bladen, Robeson and Brunswick counties and Bladenboro and Eliazbethtown police were involved in the search and arrest.
